This is a full installation package, and it can also be used to update the earlier VPv6.1 release (22 June 2009, build code 13927). Please see below under "Release Notes for 17 AUG 2009" to read about the update.
Installation:
If you already have installed and activated VPv6.1, simply download and run the file listed above. This will update VantagePoint to the latest version. You do not have to activate VantagePoint again.
If you are upgrading from an earlier version of VantagePoint (before VPv6.1), Windows Installer will automatically uninstall the previous version as part of the VPv6.1 installation process. Be sure to create copies of any custom import filters, thesauri, macros, and *.vpt files to a safe location before installing Version 6.1.
Copy your Registration Code to a text file, or other safe location. Follow these steps to retrieve your registration code.
- Launch VantagePoint
- From the “Tools” menu, select “Options”
- Copy and paste your registration code to a safe place
Following the installation of Version 6.1 of VantagePoint you will be prompted to activate your license. Once Activated, VantagePoint will be available for All Users of that machine. (Note: The first time VantagePoint is run on another user account, it is normal that Windows Installer runs in order to configure settings for that user)
To activate your license, enter your registration code in Step 1, and choose your activation option.
Note: Online Activation is instant, and should be preferred. Offline activation requests may take up to 3 business days for authorization.
Features Added in VPv6.1 (initial release 22 JUN 2009)
New Macro for Visualizations
The “Aduna Cluster Map.vpm” script has been added to the Scripts menu in VantagePoint. The script uses a Java applet to render dynamic maps that show co-occurrences of items from a single field.
Improved Compatibility with Windows Vista
A number of changes have been made to improve VantagePoint performance and functionality for users of VantagePoint on Windows Vista systems with User Account Controls turned on. These changes will also provide more functionality for users of Windows XP who need to run VantagePoint on systems with more restrictive user account permissions (e.g. members of the “Limited” permissions group).
One consequence of these changes is that VantagePoint now stores its “Saved Cleanup” resources and user-defined “hotkeys” to the roaming application data folder under each user’s profile.
An example of a path to this directory on a Windows Vista system would be:
C:\users\AppData\Roaming\VantagePoint\
And for Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\VantagePoint\
New Options for the Thesaurus tool
Allow Multiple Matches - Permits a thesaurus sub-item to match two or more main items. (Disabled by default)
Include Unmatched Items in New Field ;- After running the thesaurus, the processed field can discard or retain unmatched items from the source field. (Enabled by default)
Note: The default settings for these options support the legacy thesaurus behavior.
Tip: Add a check to the box for "Allow multiple matches" and un-check "Include Unmatched Items in New Field" to produce, in a single step, the same result as using "Group using thesaurus" followed by "Create Field from Group Names".
Summary Screen Highlighting
Highlights are added to the % Coverage column in the Summary screen to flag fields with low or incomplete dataset coverage.
Bugs Fixed in this Release:
- Fixed a bug with the Matrix.SelectAll script command: Records associated with the highest numbered column and row were not included in the selection. (This script command was not used in any script distributed with v6.0) [#1152]
- Fixed a problem when working in large datasets. VP may have become unresponsive when making selections in the main analytical view. [#1138]
- Fixed a performance issue where opening the List Comparison Dialog would force loading of all fields containing groups. [#1184]
- Fixed a bug in record classification where editing the name of a classification item would clear its membership [#1218]
